Sightseeing
As the centre of city politics, it is the seat of the city representatives and the Lord Mayor. The middle of the original three independent buildings on the Römerberg is the actual Haus zum Römer. For centuries, the term “Romans” has been used to refer to the entire city hall complex. The air raids on Frankfurt am Main in the Second World War left only the stone facades and ground floors of the medieval houses standing. |

Under the name Dom-Römer-Projekt, an approximately 7,000 square metre site was redesigned, restored and built on. As a so-called coronation path, the Old Market connects the two places that were important for the coronation of the Roman-German kings and emperors. The area forms the core of the old town, which until its destruction during the air raids in 1944 was considered one of the largest and most important half-timbered towns with its approximately 1250 half-timbered houses, most of which date from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. |

From the Middle Ages to the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (1806), it was the place of election and later also the coronation of the German kings and emperors. From each of the several viewing platforms, the visitor gets a magnificent panoramic view over the whole of Frankfurt. |

Built in the 18th/19th century, the church served as Frankfurt’s main Protestant church until 1944. Today the Paulskirche is used as an exhibition, memorial and meeting place. |

Opened in 1986, more than 240 exhibitions have so far been presented on an area of around 2000 m² and seen by more than 8.8 million visitors. The Schirn focuses on art and cultural history topics, discourses and trends from the perspective of the immediate present. Their programme is diverse, international and progressive, and attempts to open up new perspectives and break up traditional patterns of reception. The exhibitions are dedicated to contemporary art positions and modern art in equal measure. |

The almost 174-metre long pedestrian bridge connects Frankfurt’s old town with the Sachsenhausen district over the Main. It was first built in 1868 as a steel tannery girder construction, destroyed at the end of the Second World War, rebuilt and thoroughly renovated in 1993. |
